Two EPs, One Day!

July 20th, 2018 | Posted by J. T. in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

On June 29, 2018, Jib Machine Records simultaneously released two new J TEMP 13 EPs!

Cold – Revisited is an acoustic/rock album that is similar to my two previous EPs, Phat Halo Blue and J TEMP 13.  It contains a brand new song “Good 4 U” featuring guest appearances by my good friends Chad Jenson and Doug Moldovan; re-recordings of two songs (“Cold” and “Success & Suicide”) that appeared on my 2009 13 Recordings album, Cold; and a cover of the Beatles’ classic White Album track “Helter Skelter”.

#Penfield2 is an electronic house/pop/rock album that features three tracks that were written and recorded in my home studio in February of this year.  It is a continuation of the 2011 release, The Penfield Experience.  It features the high energy house track “Junk”, space rock jam “Omega & Mega Man”, and from the new indie film The Kingsbury Run, “Don’t Lose Your Head”.

As a nod to the classic K-tel 70s commercials, James Neyman and I produced a short, retro advertisement for the albums (see above).

Both releases are available on CD and download at Jib Machine Records and jtemp13.com.  You can also find them online through download and streaming retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, GooglePlay, Tidal and more!

A lost demo tape containing tracks by XING2 (short-lived project that never had a formal name…took place after XING but before the j. pyramid) is now available via 13 Recordings!  Visit the release page to read more about it.

You can also stream the full cassette below through the 13 YouTube page, or download it for FREE using the Discount Code 2KMIX at Checkout.  Enjoy!

Happy 2018, 2017 recap!

January 14th, 2018 | Posted by J. T. in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Greetings and Happy New Year!  It’s January so it’s time for my annual “beginning of the year” post, which usually ends up being only one of a couple each year, haha.  There’s already quite a bit on the horizon for 2018, but to be honest, it’ll be tough to top last year.  2017 was one for the books on many levels…from a healthy dose of live shows and events (see post below) to many new releases to new business ventures, it was awesome to say the least!  But don’t take my word for it, please read for yourself…

In April, GWAZI (my project with Brandon Youngs) issued Left, our 4th overall release and second politically themed EP.  The individual tracks were released as digital singles with original artwork by Dennis Baker ($0R0$ by Brandon) for each.  To celebrate the album, we had a listening party at the Black Market in Gordon Square and we appeared on the Radio Child show on WRUW 91.1FM.

In July, I released a 2nd solo EP, Phat Halo Blue (via Jib Machine) that I recorded in collaboration with Brandon.  I chose to record a raw, acoustic album, which was the complete opposite of the full production approach I took for my 2015 J TEMP 13 EP.

The EP featured 5-tracks…a little intro called “General Store”, a re-recording of my 2008 track “Mae”, an ode to the forgotten folks of Cleveland during the recent resurgence (“Cleveland Song”), a song about relationships in modern society (“Nothing”) and a biographical track about an immigrant family called “Transylvania”.

I also made my first official video for the track “Nothing”.  It was shot and edited by my good friend, James Neyman and featured four amazing actors, Meggan Conti, Pat D’Angelo, Leah Kraynak and Jason Klingensmith, who were gracious enough to lend their talents to the video.  You can check out the clip above.

The next month (August), I made my first trip to Italy!  There were many highlights during the 11 days I was there, but the main ones were seeing the Colosseum in Rome, experiencing the amazing beauty of Florence and meeting/getting to know my Italian cousins while spending time at our family’s villa in the city of Ascoli Piceno (it was the 100 year celebration of Villa Cicchi although the villa itself was originally build in 1685).  Truly mind-blowing!

It was suggested to me by new Jib Machine artist, Mike Onesko, that while I’m in Italy, I should make an effort to travel to La Spezia to meet with Giorgio Mangora, the Record Hunter, who was an old friend of his and owner of AKARMA Records.  I took Mike up on his suggestion and after a few email communications, Giorgio; his assistant, Franca and his daughter, Sarah agreed to meet with me.

From this very successful meeting, a new partnership was born where Jib Machine would release various CDs, LPs and Cassettes from the AKARMA and affiliate catalog in the U.S. and AKARMA would handle digital distribution in Europe for select future Jib releases.  This fall/winter, Jib Machine distributed five AKARMA and affiliate releases…Chris Wayde – Pyramids; Mouth of Clay – Darkened Sun; Magia Nera – L’Ultima Danza Di Ophelia; Vic Vergeat Band – No Compromise!; and Free Will – Cold Cold Morning.

In November, Hot Ham & Cheese finally released our long-awaited fourth album, The Onions Have Eyes, followed by a little blitz of shows, media and an appearance on WRUW’s Live from Cleveland.  The record features nine tracks (eight originals and a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”), and I believe it’s our best one to date as it shows major growth both musically and lyrically.  We’re certainly proud of it!

My multi-talented bandmate, Louie Styx, put together the video above for the lead single, “Worth It Or Worthless”.  It’s pretty cool and definitely worth checking out.  The promo machine for this album is just getting started though so be on the lookout for shows, new videos and other surprises from HH&C in 2018!

Finally, speaking of 2018, after not releasing anything via 13 Recordings last year, there are plans for a few releases this year.  They’ll mostly be archival and somewhat raw, but the plan is to make them available for free!  More news regarding these coming very soon.

For now, I just want to again wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for 2018!

New year, new music…

January 29th, 2017 | Posted by J. T. in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Happy 2017!  I hope this year is off to a good start for you and yours!

As we know, 2016 was a crazy year for music as we lost too many legends…icons like Prince, David Bowie, George Martin, George Michael, Leonard Cohen and Glenn Frey (and Lemmy too even though he technically died at the tail end of 2015).  It’s one that we’ll never forget but for the wrong reasons unfortunately.  For me personally, 2016 proved to be a very busy and prolific time…

The early part of the year saw the release of 9E$V$ This Ain’s No Movie Mixtape (recorded at Studio 13 over a period of years) as well as Dennis Baker’s first official solo album Collisions Under Realm recorded mostly in 2015 and the early part of 2016 at Studio 711.

This past summer, Gwazi released the full-length XVI in June (recorded in February 2016 at Track Six) and the politically charged EP #RNC in July (recorded in May 2016 at Track Six).

And finally, Brandon Youngs and I produced Beholda collection of classic traditional and spiritual Christmas songs performed by my mother, Philomena Gales (recorded August – November 2016 at Track Six).  It was a lifelong dream of hers to record a Christmas album so the experience was very personal and rewarding to say the least.

Along with those albums released last year, other music was written and recorded that will see the light of day this year.  Hot Ham & Cheese spent most of 2016 finishing the writing process for our 5th album, The Onions Have Eyes. We recorded the bulk of the record in September 2016 at Tracks Six Recording and are currently putting the finishing touches on it.  Keep and eye out for a late Spring release.  Also, a J TEMP 13 acoustic album entitled Phat Halo Blue was mostly written and recorded from March – June 2016 once again at Track Six.  More details are forthcoming, but this should also see a late spring/early summer release.  And finally, Gwazi started working on new music this month for an as yet untitled EP to be released soon.

Lastly, you might have noticed that the 13 Recordings site now has a section called 13 Cassettes.  This is a new store that will feature releases on this classic medium from 13 Recordings/Jib Machine artists as well as 13R merchandise. Check out the Gwazi/Poor Ass Leon split cassette (Jib Machine/13 Recordings/Gray Muzzle) and the Drug Fux We Will Get You compilation cassette from Wiener Records available now!

Thank you for reading.  Until next time…

The summer of 1996 was quite an interesting one for the Bowling Green, OH rock band, Xing (the band I started with two good friends from college).  During our first official summer as a band, we experienced the highest highs and unfortunately, endured a tragic low as well.  However, it’s easy to say that July 18-19, 1996, were two of the best and most memorable days in the band’s existence.

On the 18th, we competed in the WMMS Battle of the Bands at the legendary Geauga Lake after being selected as one of 15 finalists.  We won our first round battle (eventually losing in the semi-finals) and spent the day celebrating at the amusement park then continued the party later on at the infamous Greenville Inn in Chagrin Falls, OH.

The following day, we traveled back to Bowling Green to play a show at one of our home base bars, the now defunct Tuxedo Junction.  Riding the wave from the previous night’s victory, we played an electric, high energy first set.  Fortunately, that set was captured on cassette direct from the sound board mix.

Now, 20 years later, the recordings from that night have been digitized and mastered.  13 Recordings is proud to offer a FREE Download of Xing – Live at Tuxedo Junction – 7/19/96.  Just use the discount code XING20 at checkout and enjoy your free copy of this classic live set!

Mariner and Moon FRONT

Two J TEMP 13 albums and one single have been given a full digital release!  Thanks to a new digital distribution deal secured by my record label, Jib Machine Records, Mariner in the Moon, White Russian single and a special release of the full J TEMP 13 Original Score from On The North Coast are now available through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, etc.  So if you prefer to buy your music at any of those outlets, please consider downloading one or all of them!

Thanks for reading.  Until next time…

Hello!  I hope the first 3+ months of 2016 have treated you well.  It’s been another extremely busy, yet productive winter.  My way of dealing with the cold and snow is to spend as much time as I can in the studio writing and recording, and this year was probably my most constructive ever!

In mid-February, Hot Ham & Cheese rented a cabin in southern Ohio for a few days to complete the writing process for our next album.  We plan to hit the studio in late summer/early fall, but the video above is a little teaser of what’s to come.

The day I returned from the cabin, Brandon Youngs and I began work on the 2nd GWAZI album.  After nine intense days of writing and recording, we emerged with XVI.  More details are forthcoming, but the album will most likely see an early summer release via Jib Machine.

Then last month, I recorded four solo acoustic tracks and am scheduled to record another four this month.  These songs will be part of a bigger project that I hope to release this fall.  Again, more details coming soon.

Finally, now that the weather is starting to break, the gig season is ramping up again.  Below are dates scheduled for this spring thus far…

Saturday, April 23rd – CWRU Hudson Relays – Cleveland, 9am (DJing)

                                             – Hiram College Private Party – Hiram, 9pm (JT & the Cube)

Sunday, May 1st – Private Event @ SmartSpace – Cleveland, 8pm (DJing)

Saturday, May 7th – AFK Night at the Races Fundraiser – Girard, 7pm (DJing)

Friday, May 13th – Kamm’s Cafe – Cleveland, 9pm (SHA)

Saturday, May 14th – The 9 (Opening for David Curtis) – Cleveland, 7pm (J TEMP 13)

Saturday, June 4th – Private Event – Cleveland, 6pm (DJing)

Friday, July 29th – Kamm’s Cafe – Cleveland, 9pm (SHA)

Thursday, August 4th – ICAA Summer Conference Event – Toledo, 9pm (SHA)

That’s all for now.  Thanks for reading!

Pressure Life & The Kingsbury Run

February 3rd, 2016 | Posted by J. T. in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Happy New Year! Aside from all of the rock stars and Howard Stern Wack Packers dying, 2016 has started off on a good foot! Last month, Pressure Life magazine in Cleveland wrote a feature article about Jib Machine Records with mentions of 13 Recordings as well. Many thanks to Jim, Dan and the whole Pressure Life crew for showing us some love. Enjoy the read!

The great minds at WLFK Productions are gearing up to shoot their next film!  I’m proud to announce that I have a small part in the movie and will be writing and producing the main title theme.  More news is forthcoming.

That’s all for now.  Thanks as always for the support.  Until next time…

New albums & a new look for Jib…

December 15th, 2015 | Posted by J. T. in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Well, it’s mid-December and this is only my second 13 Recordings post of the year.  Believe me, it’s not because I’ve been slacking…it’s just been a crazy busy year.  As I mentioned in my last post from this summer, Jib Machine Records went through a rebrand this year, and we had a custom website built as well (variations of the new brand/logo are above).  Thank you to Hey Now! Media for all of their hard work on the new brand/site.  You can now access it with another new (and much cooler) web address too, jibmachine.rocks.

On Friday, November 13, 2015, I finally released my self-titled solo EP that I recorded at Track Six Productions with Brandon Youngs throughout 2014 and the first part of this year.  Honestly, I consider it my best work for many reasons…not just because it’s the most recent thing I’ve done.

My goal was to create an album that paid homage to the 70s rock/soft rock sound but with a fresh, modern take and going by some of the feedback I’ve received, I believe I accomplished that.  A very special thanks goest out to all my friends that contributed to the project…Karaoke Bob, Cube, Louie Styx, G Woof, Danny Shapira, Mike Onesko, Dennis Baker, Brandon Youngs and Giuseppe Ragozzino.  Thanks to David Castell for mastering it as well.  The album can be purchased through Jib Machine, but it’s also available on iTunes, Amazon and you can stream it for free on YouTube.

Finally, you can access my artist page on the new Jib Machine site via my new web address, jtemp13.com.

Lastly, on October 23, 2015, Hot Ham & Cheese released X Sessions, a mixture of live in-studio, live and studio tracks to celebrate our Xth year in existence.  It’s hard to believe that a decade has already passed, but then again, nothing in life really surprises me these days.  Like my solo album, you can purchase X Sessions through Jib Machine or via iTunes and Amazon.  You can also check it out wherever tracks are streamed (Spotify, YouTube, etc.).

That’s all for now.  In the event that I don’t post again until 2016, happy holidays/new year/or whatever it is that you celebrate.  Thanks as always for the support!
